Odysseus volunteers to go on his own smaller boat to explore the island with a few of his trustworthy
men.
When they get to the island, they see a cave.
The cave belongs to a cyclopes named Polyphemus.
He has sheep, milk and cheese in his cave.
Odysseus and his men investigate Polyphemus' cave.
His men wish to steal the food and run, but Odysseus says no.
The cyclopes returns to his cave and finds strangers there.
Odysseus tells him they are guests and that Zeus requires him to treat them well.
Polyphemus says he does not care about what Zeus says.
Polyphemus soon after grabs up 2 of the men, bashes them aginst the wall and eats them.
The next day, while the cyclopes is out tending his sheep, Odysseus and his men form a plan.
They sharpen a stick and hide it in the cave.
When he returns, he eats 2 more men.
Odysseus gives Polyphemus wine.
Once he is drunk, Odysseus tells the cyclopes that his name is "Nobody".
When Polyphemus passes out, the men harden the stick they sharpened in the fire.
Then they stab his only eye with the heated stick.
When he shouts to his brothers for help they ask who attacked him.
He tells them " Nobody " has hurt me.
They misunderstand and think that he means he is fine.
Odysseus and his men tie them selves to the bellies of Polyphemus' sheep to escape.
Once at the ship, Odysseus cannot help him self and blurts out that he is Odysseus, king of Ithica and Polyphemus
prays to his father Posidon not to let Odysseus return home.
